FREE virtual Polymer Sculpture Workshop
Taught by Thalia Isen, M.F.A.

Learn new skills and techniques for sculpture, or just have fun with the family at home. Perfect for small sculptures, jewelry, ornaments, or figurines.

The Polymer Sculpture Workshop is part of Creative Forces®: NEA Military Healing Arts Network, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the U.S. Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs and the state and local arts agencies. The initiative seeks to improve the health, wellness, and quality of life for military and veteran populations exposed to trauma, as well as their families and caregivers. Administrative support for the initiative is provided by Americans for the Arts and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine

VETART ONLINE

In VETART's first online class, VETART Executive Director Steve Dilley, M.F.A., constructs a porcelain nurse's cap, in memory of his mother and an acknowledgement of the public health workers that currently face the increasingly complex challenge that is Coronavirus; we thank our public heath workers for their unrelenting endurance and dedication.

As you go through the lesson with Steve, we challenge you to create your own personal symbol.

Even if you aren't able to get your hands on some clay, please do not let that stop you from participating in this lesson! You can make the cap from paper, fabric, or anything pliable!

LESSON: Nurse's Cap

LESSON: Throwing a Cylinder on the Wheel

What kind of classes does VETART offer?
VETART offers free bronze casting classes to veterans, active duty, their families, and veterans' advocates. VETART classes are designed to build relationships, artistic skills, and broader community connections through the medium of bronze sculpting and ceramics classes. Through these classes participants not only meet great people with common experiences and values, but learn powerful art-making skills in the process.  In addition, VETART connects veterans to the broader community through the dignified presentation of artwork in publications and exhibitions.
